Artist Bio

dsc_0004bw2I was born and raised in the Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) area and love that I can call the metroplex home!  Growing up I attended public school through my freshman year of high school when I made the choice to attend a local private academy.  Through out both my public and private school experience I found that I felt the most at home in the art classroom.  Art has always been a passion and outlet in my own life and I was blessed to have amazing art educators at both the middle school and high school levels that encouraged my artist growth.  Those individuals made a difference in my life and are responsible for my desire to instill that same passion in my future students.

After graduating high school I attended several colleges before settling down at The University of North Texas (UNT) in the College of Visual Arts and Design.  I enjoyed being an art major however upon entering the art education program I realized how passionate I am about teaching art.  I quickly joined the National Art Education Association Student Chapter where I was later elected Student Chapter Historian and Vice President.  During my time as an officer in the student chapter I have attended several art education conferences including the NAEA Annual Conference in New Orleans 2008 and TAEA Annual Conference in San Antonio 2008 where I presented with several colleagues and professors.  I am currently planning on attending and presenting at the NAEA Annual Conference in Minneapolis in April of this year with several colleagues.  I am also extremely excited to be accepting the Higher Education Student Achievement Award at the conference.  I was honored to simply be nominated by the Art Education Faculty at UNT for the award, but cannot begin to express my gratitude for being chosen.

In addition to Art Education I am also a practicing studio artist.  My earlier work was mainly composed of Drawing and Painting, however lately I have really been interested in Mixed Media with an emphasis on recycled objects.  My work has been shown in art exhibits in the DFW area as well as published in a local journal.  For more details on past exhibitions see ‘My Resume.’  I hope you’ll take time to look over my work on the various media pages as well.

A simple sentence can sum it all up:

Art and Education are the combination of two of my passions, art and children!
